MM1 locomotives and M1 trailers coming soon! For reference, the MM1/M1 was the first suburban train in France, used on the Paris Metro since its opening. "MM1" referred to the motor coaches and "M1" referred to the trailers they pulled (at a ratio of one MM1 to 3 M1s). These locomotives were bidirectional, and would drive around to the other end of the 4-car train at the destination.
Only 8 meters long, but highly problematic; the diminutive MM1 and its M1 trailers were highly susceptible to short circuits, which is bad when the entire carriage is made of flammable wood and flammable cast iron (the carbon in the cast iron frames will catch fire), such drawbacks were highlighted when a 12-car consist running to Nation station burst into flames in 1903.
These were not around for long. All were retired by 1931, with Line 1 losing its original rollingstock in 1914.

This very grainy photograph, likely at Bastille station due to the presence of the iconic iron bar in between the tracks, shows the trailers; the MM1 did a run-around at the terminus to link up to the opposite end; guards would hang off the back of the trains. The MM1 is inside the station building, and is not visible.
