NOTE: THIS IS A PRERELEASE, MODEL UPDATED on 5/11/2025So... built the X-12 Atomic Engine out of curiosity... it went well, but some issues arose immediately.
See below for diagnosis and how I will fix all issues, a new model will come soon
First of all, the nose. The classic "bulldog nose" that most Amercan locomotives (and many Australian locomotives) wore was a hard build. It did not want to stick. Thankfully, the nose of an X-12 is boxy, so I did not have to do too much chord measuring...
However, I had initially made the locomotive very wide, and, when I narrowed it down, I forgot to deal with the front. So the front was about 1cm too wide! I trimmed it and fixed it, which is evident in the photograph above.
Another issue is the window skirt st the front; it is too wide and lacks flexion. Therefore, it refuses to bend, and puts the entire nose in tension! This is why so many gaps opened in the nose.Yes, that is a protogen driving the train.
Otherwise, it built nicely; here is a side photo of the train.HeatsinkLocomotive
Both driving cabins on the locomotive; you can indeed drive from the heatsink end!So I need to:
-Make the front end thinner, and introduce more flexion in the cab
- Thin out some floor components
-Design bogies
-Improve small areas which lack detail
