VR Harris Train with SiC-VVVF inverters

In Europe, VR is Finnish Railways. But here in Australia, VR is Victorian Railways!

This was a model of a Victorian Railways Harris Train, named after their then-CEO. They entered service in 1956 and ran to 1988, when they were buried in a quarry, as they used asbestos as insulation.

I found a very damaged paper model of a Harris train in my cupboard while cleaning it out, and rebuilt it. However, it needed new floor equipment, but the only things I had available were some old E131 floor equipment (which I am replacing). Therefore, my 1956 Australian train has 2021 Japanese traction control! The real Harris Trains had resistor drives.

Now, this model was not originally my design. It was made by a (now defunct) Australian design firm called TransitGraphics. They have now stopped making these trains, and, as I got this model in a questionably legal way, it has a watermark. I am not going to publish this model, instead, I will draw my own one.

So... new model out soon...?

This reference sheet includes side views of all widebody versions of the E131, or everything but the E131-1000. The bottom one, the E131-1500, is unreleased as of now.

Notice the round door windows on the E131-1500, and absence of a front end doorway.

E131-0: 2 carriage widebody E131, initial version, layout of Bo'Bo'+2'2' (1M1T)

E131-600: 3 carriage widebody coldweather E131, third version, layout of Bo'Bo'+2'Bo+2'2' (2M1T)

E131-500: 4 carriage widebody E131, second version, layout of Bo'Bo'+2'2'+Bo'Bo'+2'2' (2M2T)

E131-0's entered service on 13 March 2021, and carry numbers R1 - R12

E131-500's entered service on 18 November 2021, and carry numbers G-01 - G-12

E131-600's entered service on 12 March 2022, and carry numbers TN1 - TN15

E131-1000's (not shown) entered service on 24 December 2023, and carry numbers T1-T8

E131-1500s have yet to enter service, with entry planned in December 2025. They will carry numbers from N1 onwards.

Edit: E131-1500s are no longer called E131-1500s, they have been renamed by JR to E131-800s.

This is a JR East E131-500! The blue E131! (or... I think its blue, I am colourblind...)

The layout of this train is Bo'Bo'+2'2'+Bo'Bo'+2'2', which is unusual, as no carriage is identical to any other in the consist. This does, however, mean that power is well balanced throughout the train, resulting in no backlash from desynchronised motors under even heavy acceleration (oh wait, this train cannot accelerate fast at all, never mind, Japanese trains are slow)

I have not posted for 9 days, that is because I made a promise with myself that I would not get distracted from revising for my Engineering exam. The exam was today, it was two hours long and very hard, but it is finished now, so I can begin drawing trains again!

First up: A simple remix of Clem's TER2N (z23500) in TER Rhône-Alpes livery, which is my favourite livery. I changed up the windscreen size on the front, as well as some side/top details, and added my gradient window shading on the side...

I knew I needed to remix this, but it was so perfect that I could not find much that needed changing! Awesome model!

IMPORTANT: The trailer has a smaller front bogie than rear. MAKE SURE to put the bogies the right way round!

Crimson VB2N

The long-awaited Crimson VB2N is finally done! This 7-car consist is composed of one driving trailer, one trailer with bike space and a toilet, one carriage with no toilet, or bike space, one carriage with a toilet, one low-floor carriage with a wheelchair accessible toilet (PMR), one low-floor carriage with bike space and a wheelchair accessible toilet (PMR-V), and one carriage which couples to a locomotive.

In a little "twist" -- all carriages have air conditioning!

P2 and P3 might need new bogies...

Nicely modernised Sm2 V2 at the bottom, with gradient window details! The front windows are bulletproof glass, and so they have no gradient shade. I have fixed all issues on the model that I noticed.
