For anybody curious about the history of the Newcastle K Sets, this will provide a good resource. This shows all 5 liveries of the Newcastle K Set, and their operation history during this time.
By the way, these trains rarely ever ran in 2-carriage formation, usually operating as 4, 6 or even 8 carriage sets (K1-K4 coupled together).
I have, however, found a photo of K3 running by itself (curiously, the driving trailer leads). This K Set is now part of K99, which I believe has been scrapped, or is going to be scrapped soon. Shame.

Anyway, this is a really good photo, I don't know who took it.
You can tell a driving trailer apart from a typical driving motor by the single grate on the roof (compared to the two found on motors, which have resistors underneath them) and the slot in the roof for a pantograph (a feature of all trailer cars).
