I am going to start (tomorrow) making a paper model of a V Set, which is the yellow train in the photo below:
D54 left, V44 right: a notoriously problematic new train replaces a beloved, reliable old one.Since most of you are French and these are Australian-Japanese trains, I feel like an explanation about them is needed.
V sets were built in 5 batches
1st was DCF and DTF (built 1968, initially targeted as "U Sets", shunt drive with 4x 168hp AEI DC shuntwound motors)
2nd was DCM and DCT, built 1970 (resistor driven with 4x 207hp DC motors)
3rd was DIM and DIT, built 1977 (resistor driven, same as above)
4th was DJM and DIT/DJT, built 1981 (4-quadrant GTO drive, 4x 218hp DC motors)
5th was DKM and DKT, built 1989 (4-quadrant GTO drive, same as above)
Also, some "loose" DTM motors -- they were just made individually, not as part of a series or anything, made when more motor cars were needed, all of them were resistor drive with 207hp motors.
DCF, DCM, DIM, DJM, DKM, loose DTM are all motors
DTF, DCT, DTD, DET, DIT, DJT, DKT all were trailers
But DCTs were all driving trailers.
And some driving trailers were renamed DTD driving trailers.
Oh -- and one driving trailer was converted into a lounge (DET, also called the *Contura*.) It still exists, as part of V21 (which also has a loose DTM car and a DIM/DCT combo)
V Sets ran all intercity lines in Sydney, e.g. CCN, BMT, SCO etc
They also ran suburban when extra trains were needed, the 2-car 2nd series V Sets were often put anywhere they could fit...
Oh yeah, and there's 1 more week left before they're all gone.
Bye.
