K Set in SRA "Candy" livery (From Sydney RER)

PavløvA_YT

Above: Arrangements of this train

Firstly, I need to apologise, my software for editing (Paint3D) has been screwing up recently and putting lines of static throughout these trains. Hence the discolouration everywhere.

Liveries: State Rail Authority (SRA) "Candy" livery (this model), CityRail Silver (next post), CityRail CityDecker I (coming soon), CityRail CityDecker II (coming soon), TFNSW CityDecker (coming soon)

Ahhh, the K Set. Sydney's (currently) oldest suburban rolling stock, and the nicest sounding if you ask me (although opinions on this matter heavily differ -- lots of people hate these trains)

These double decker trains, with fluted stainless steel bodies, entered service in 1981 and initially had force ventilation (like MF67G1s on 3/3bis) before getting full air conditioning in the late 80s.

The main difference between K and S Sets is their formations; while S Sets could theoretically run as single carriages because their driving motors are self-contained,  K Set motors lack a pantograph, which is placed on the trailer instead, making these trains incapable of driving as single carriages. In fact, trailers and motors are permanently coupled into B'B'+2'2' configurations.

Of note is that not all K Set trailers were the same. Although most of them were reserved for middle-of-train operations, 4 of them could drive! These were part of the first order of K Sets, which comprised 4 2-carriage regional K Sets, K1, K2, K3 and K4.

No 2-carriage K Sets exist anymore, as the driving trailers of all the 2-car K Sets had their driving cabins removed, driver access doors plated over, and yellow front ends painted silver. K1 + K2 became 4-carriage permanently coupled set K98 and K3 + K4 became K99, which ran together as an 8-carriage set for several years (K98 runs with K91 now and K99 ran with K94 but both of them have since been parked at Maintrain, waiting to be dismantled and recycled).

I have released 2 models, K1 and K80. They can run together, as P1a-P2a-P1-P2-P3-P4 or as separate units P1a-P2a and P1-P2-P3-P4. P1a and P2a can only run together, K Set driving trailers only ever run with K Set driving motors. K80 can be split into two half-trains, which can be added to individual 2-car sets or as a "block" on the back of a 4-car set, but K80's two halves cannot drive by themselves.

Both of these trains are published in the "SRA Candy" livery, which is, to many, the best K Set livery of them all. In all liveries I publish, an Intercity and a Suburban version will exist.

-Suburban K Set K80 (which was nicknamed "Katie" for obvious reasons)-

P4 (Tail section driving motor)
P3 (Trailer)
P2 (Trailer)
P1 (Driving motor)

-Newcastle K Set K1 (Intercity 2-car version, now part of K98)-

P2a (Newcastle K Set rear driving trailer)

Final 3D Model S-Tog!

ORDER FORM FOR TRAINS HERE: 1/87 scale DSB Litra SA/SE Order Form

Today I finished the Litra SA/SE configurations... the motor car needs to have an interior rework for driving and to make way for bogies, but it is a decent start for now.

Today marks the creation of the Litra SE's P4, which is a single axle carriage with a driver's cab, and is one window-length shorter than the Litra SA motor car.

The reason for the curve panels on the front is because I sent this carriage set to someone with more Fusion360 experience than me, he fixed it... thanks Hayden!

P2 has space for a pantograph... I still have to work out the routings for the driveshafts...

I also made space in P1 for a DCC decoder, which will probably be a ZIMO decoder... because they are tiny! Anyway, I will try to fit as much into these trains as possible.

There are sockets for windows of 1mm thickness.

Drivers doors will not possess windows, they are typically rolled down in real life so I will replicate that.

P1's base, with space for a motor of 130 size... bracket for said motor has not been drawn yet.
P1's bodyshell, which glues onto the base.

New S Tog front

PavløvA_YT's Modelling

A fellow train guy who is a friend of sorts drew this... I sent him the S-Tog bodyshell and he made a decent looking front end for it. I just need to detail it. Model will be rushed into production very soon... expect 3D printed bodyshells in a week or two...

3D Model S-Tog!

PavløvA_YT's Modelling

I have begun modelling an S-Tog!

Well... I say "begun", but I have almost finished the model. All that I need to do is the front end. This has, as you may have guessed, been nearly impossible for me...

Given that this is my first time using Fusion360, this was a good effort... I just need someone with actual skill to draw the front end, because it is torturous! I would do anything else as preference!

Also, note that for my first model, I picked something... decidedly round. Fusion, like all 3D modelling software, works better in squares. And here I am, doing a rounded hexagon, with a detailled roof! I should have drawn a train from Sydney, they're all boxes with 45 degree roofs!

"Order form" -- really just an Expression of Interest (at the moment) is below:

1:87 scale DSB Litra SA/SE Order Form

Anyway, features of this train are:

-Detailled roof, body side, and articulation

-Electric motor (either brushless or 5/7 pole skew-wound motor) in front carriage, driving 2 axles

-Single axle bogies (2 bogies on P1, 1 on P2, P3, P4)

-Potentially DCC, if enough people request it

-Scharfenberg couplers on front end of motor car, knuckle coupler on rear end of P4, drawbars everywhere else

-3D printed bodyshells (although may be CNC milled!)

-Bogies will possibly have a pendular tilt system as there is space in the floor for weights.

-Can run in multiple, up to 4 units (16 cars), minimum operation of 2 units Litra SA, 1 unit Litra SE.

-Lights indicating direction of travel

-Note that this model will not have a detailed interior.

Current photos:

P1 -- as of now missing roof equipment and a front end. Will have scharfenberg couplers on front and drawbar at rear. This carriage will hold the electric motor that moves the train. In a later version, the floor and body will become separate parts; to enable easy install of a motor.
P2 -- completed, has mounting space for a pantograph and a detailled roof, and also has drawbar couplings at both ends.
P3 - Same as P2 but without the pantograph. Has drawbar couplings at both ends.

P4 (Litra SA only) -- these lack a drawbar coupling at the back, they will have a knuckle coupler system to join to other P4 back ends, making a full 8-car train. When 2 Litra SA are coupled to form an 8-car train, the trains' PCB will treat the 8-car unit as one train. Does not work for Litra SE.

A Litra SE version of P4, called P4a, is the only real differentiating factor between Litra SA and Litra SE sets. P4a has a driving cab, and still possesses only one axle.

Arrangements:
Litra SA: P1-P2-P3-P4-P4-P3-P2-P1
Litra SE: P1-P2-P3-P4a

UPDATE: A friend (kind of a friend...) has given the S Tog a front... I will make all 4 cars tomorrow and post more photos
New front... its good enough. Given how painful F360 is to use, it is a top-tier effort.

Celebrating 202 posts and 25000 views: 202 MP51!

PavløvA_YT

Above: This is one of the prettiest liveries I have drawn

Ahh... that time again. Time to create a special livery to celebrate you guys. This particular train celebrates 202 models/reviews/community announcements published!

Alright, now time to thank people who helped me along the way.

Obviously I have to thank CP92, as usual, thank you for your supply of wonderful models that I can remix, thanks for ideas, and thanks for introducing me properly to French trains! ❤️

Also, thank you Sensoul, for drawing the front end on the MP59, it facilitated an easy MP59 model build.

Anyway, so I feel like some explaining on why I chose the MP51 as my celebratory vehicle is needed:

Over the year, my blog has had many thousand views (over 25,000, and counting) and will likely reach 30,000 by the end of the year (UPDATE: Blog reached 30,000 on 30/11). Hence, I needed to pick a vehicle that helped this happen.

The MP51 is my most viewed model, having over 540 views (and counting)! Hence I picked the MP51. It also was innovative for its time, being the first truly driverless train, and the first train to use exclusively rubber tyres. I also like the MP51 a lot, and its body provided a square drawing piece that I could heavily detail.

Anyway, this train has a lot of features, which include:

- Train art on the roof, including Oscar no.H3, MP14-5CC, MP73, MP55, MP51, R2N NPdC, Oscar H3 front, Protogen (not a train), MF67Cx2, MF19 Essai, MF88, and a T 2000 ÎDFM.

- Train art on the floor (all rubber tyred trains of the Paris Métro, except MP89/MP05s)

-Yellow-fronted livery with black window detail

- Full PavløvA_YT logo and stats about the MP51 (how many views, comments it has gotten)

- "202" logo on the side to celebrate 202 posts

- Writing in both French and English, celebrating 202 posts.

Above: The 202 MP51

It has the same build difficulty as the normal MP51. The only difference is the livery.

A simplified version also exists, at the same scale as the 202 MP51:

This is an ÎDFM relivery of the T 2000 train from Oslo's metro.

Only no.2001 will be reliveried, this is an unofficial paintjob. Don't tell the Norwegians I did this... they will end me.

Orange Oscar no.H44

H44
All Oscar repaints so far... more will come...

Here we have H44, which runs with H48. This train, unlike the rest of refurbished Oscars, has a yellow pinstripe on the side.

It also has no protogen driving it -- I can only drive one Oscar at a time! I can't be in 2 places at once!

H3+H48 (full consist @ 8 carriages

This post introduces a model of H48, another orange Oscar. This one has a slightly different livery, with silver driver doors.

It also lacks a driver, it is designed to be coupled up to H3 or H44 (Above)

Also something of note: H48, in real life, is missing its front bumper on the first carriage. This model replicates that, which is why H48's P1 looks weird compared to H3's P1

Also note that H48 does not have a "H" designation on its target plate, it just reads "48".

Completed orange Oscar

Today, I completed the orange Oscar I started yesterday. X-12 was put to the test, and hauled the 4-car double deck EMU in like it was nothing!

Here is X-12 after dragging in the Oscar.

Dancer took an immediate interest in the train, inspecting it.
