K Set in SRA "Candy" livery (From Sydney RER)

Above: Arrangements of this train

Firstly, I need to apologise, my software for editing (Paint3D) has been screwing up recently and putting lines of static throughout these trains. Hence the discolouration everywhere.

Liveries: State Rail Authority (SRA) "Candy" livery (this model), CityRail Silver (next post), CityRail CityDecker I (coming soon), CityRail CityDecker II (coming soon), TFNSW CityDecker (coming soon)

Ahhh, the K Set. Sydney's (currently) oldest suburban rolling stock, and the nicest sounding if you ask me (although opinions on this matter heavily differ -- lots of people hate these trains)

These double decker trains, with fluted stainless steel bodies, entered service in 1981 and initially had force ventilation (like MF67G1s on 3/3bis) before getting full air conditioning in the late 80s.

The main difference between K and S Sets is their formations; while S Sets could theoretically run as single carriages because their driving motors are self-contained,  K Set motors lack a pantograph, which is placed on the trailer instead, making these trains incapable of driving as single carriages. In fact, trailers and motors are permanently coupled into B'B'+2'2' configurations.

Of note is that not all K Set trailers were the same. Although most of them were reserved for middle-of-train operations, 4 of them could drive! These were part of the first order of K Sets, which comprised 4 2-carriage regional K Sets, K1, K2, K3 and K4.

No 2-carriage K Sets exist anymore, as the driving trailers of all the 2-car K Sets had their driving cabins removed, driver access doors plated over, and yellow front ends painted silver. K1 + K2 became 4-carriage permanently coupled set K98 and K3 + K4 became K99, which ran together as an 8-carriage set for several years (K98 runs with K91 now and K99 ran with K94 but both of them have since been parked at Maintrain, waiting to be dismantled and recycled).

I have released 2 models, K1 and K80. They can run together, as P1a-P2a-P1-P2-P3-P4 or as separate units P1a-P2a and P1-P2-P3-P4. P1a and P2a can only run together, K Set driving trailers only ever run with K Set driving motors. K80 can be split into two half-trains, which can be added to individual 2-car sets or as a "block" on the back of a 4-car set, but K80's two halves cannot drive by themselves.

Both of these trains are published in the "SRA Candy" livery, which is, to many, the best K Set livery of them all. In all liveries I publish, an Intercity and a Suburban version will exist.

-Suburban K Set K80 (which was nicknamed "Katie" for obvious reasons)-

P4 (Tail section driving motor)
P3 (Trailer)
P2 (Trailer)
P1 (Driving motor)

-Newcastle K Set K1 (Intercity 2-car version, now part of K98)-

P1a (Newcastle K Set driving motor with me driving it)
P2a (Newcastle K Set rear driving trailer)
