Small update, I found out that some MA51/MA52 Control Motors had their driving cabs, lights and destination boards removed, control cables fitted, and semi-permanent drawbar couplings (like those linking road-going trucks together) were used to lock these driving motors together, turning them into effectively booster units. These were known as MA51B and MA52B cars.
These run like any normal MA51/52, but must be coupled to another MA51/52...
