PavløvA_YTHere, we have the Harris Trains: Melbourne's asbestos-filled nightmares.
These trains entered service from 1956-1980, and were constantly improved over the years of construction. These trains, recognised by their striking blue/gold livery, entered in 3 batches
Batch 1: Blue window trim, numbering from 500-590M, called "500 Series", had the ability to field-weaken their motors, producing more power, at high speeds. V/Max of 130km/h, comprised of Motors (M), Trailers (T) and "Backing Trailers (BT)", which were designed to couple directly to Motors' front ends. Used crocidolite (blue asbestos) insulation. Carriages had auto couplers at both ends.
Batch 2: Silver window trim, numbering from 700-791M, called "700 Series", could not field-weaken their motors, so V/Max of 110km/h. Comprised of Motors, Trailers and Backing Trailers. Used chrysotile (white asbestos) insulation. Carriages had semi-permanent drawbars inbetween sets, and auto couplers at the front ends of Motors, and back ends of Backing Trailers.
Batch 3: Silver window trim, numbering from 791-799M, called "HC700 Series (High Capacity 700 series)", more powerful motors, could do 120km/h without field-weakening. Comprised of Motors, Trailers, Backing Trailers and "Long Trailers", which were 10ft longer than normal. Carriages had semi-permanent drawbars inbetween sets, and auto couplers at the front ends of Motors, and back ends of Backing Trailers.
Trains were split into two subsets: M-T-T-M "Blocks", and M-T-BT "Units", which were arranged into 7 car M-T-BT-M-T-T-M trains. Special Batch 3 M-M shuttles also operated at high speed, although rarely.
These are the templates for Motor cars, underfloor equipment and Trailer cars (incl. Backing Trailers) will come in a later post ^w^
